We clubbed these two programs together as the situations regarding COVID pandemic had not subsided in our district, people were not willing to attend the meeting frequently.

In the first session, assessment of the CBOs status was taken up and the consolidated points were: -

They were Dr. Deepak from WHO, Dr. Pamreila Grace, DMO (District Malaria Officer), Dr. Thotreichon, DSO (District Surveillance Officer). Each of them talked about the COVID appropriate behavior and the poor response to vaccination of our Community. Many doubts and questions of the participants were thoroughly explained by the doctors

a) During 2020-21, the pandemic had affected all our activities in all the district. Therefore, we could not have our CBOs meeting as planned.

b) Although COVID cases started subsiding, fuel price hiked and the transportation charge had increased so much that the TA we paid was not sufficient for them. Hence, they are reluctant to attend the program.

b) c) To access govt. schemes, our CBOs expressed that whenever they approached the concerned depts. The officers were either not available in the offices or the information of related schemes were also not disclosed. Therefore, to pursue any schemes involved a lot of expenditures and time consuming which also is not affordable in terms of finance and labor.

In the second session, we formed 15 SHG’s with the women group. Each group should have 15-20 women selected from poor of the poorest families of their respective villages, to enhance their livelihood by using their innovative methods. Each group was given a cash book to maintain their accounts, a register book to record the minutes of their meetings, membership enrollment and a file cover. A seed money of 1200/- and a profile format were given to each SHG. They were also encouraged to have regular meetings and to have their own contribution and use it as revolving fund among themselves.

Time to time their progress will be monitored.

2) Field Visit

Frequent field visit could not be carried out as planned for the past 2 years (2020-2021) due to COVID pandemic. This year in the month of Feb 12 & 13th 2022, two of our staff namely: Aton Shaiza & Ayao Shaiza visited 5 villages of chingai block. They are Ngahui, Kuirei, Kalhang, Nungbi Kajui & Nungbi Khullen

LM block (Ngainga & Lanai) on 18 & 19th Feb 2022. And visited Ukhrul block i.e. Greenland, Alungtang & Awontang on 15th March 2022. Awungtang, Kasomtang & Luiyainaotang on 16th March 2022 and Khararphung and Meizailung on 17th March 2022.

Findings/responses of field visits: -

  • - Many villages have applied for various government schemes but the schemes have not been realized yet.
  • - Most of POs are reluctant to work actively as there is no financial support of their own.
  • - In some villages the record books of SHGs were checked and found that some have started growing vegetables like cabbage, peas etc. but the starter seed money we gave them were too less to implement their desired activities, so we shall be adding some more amount from the budget to each SHGs

3) Observation of International Women’s Day

The International women’s day could not carry out on 8th March due to unavoidable circumstances so we observed it on 15th March at Phungyo Baptist Church with 30 (10 males & 20 female) number of participants. Ms. Aton Shaiza, gave a keynote address on the observation of International Women’s Day, also encouraged girl’s/women achievers to facilitate on this day so that we can promote more women achievers. We have to change our mindset and gave equal treatment to our younger generation.

The resource person highlighted background of International Women’s day and its significant and elaborate the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. Advancing gender equality in the context of the climate crisis and disaster risk reduction is one of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century. Women are increasingly being recognized as more vulnerable to climate change impacts than men, as they constitute the majority of the world’s poor and are more dependent on the natural resources which climate change threatens the most.

At the same time, women and girls are effective and powerful leaders and change-makers for climate adaptation and mitigation. They are involved in sustainability initiatives around the world, and their participation and leadership results in more effective climate action

Continuing to examine the opportunities, as well as the constraints, to empower women and girls to have a voice and be equal players in decision-making related to climate change and sustainability is essential for sustainable development and greater gender equality. Without gender equality today, a sustainable future, and anequal future, remains beyond our reach.

This International Women’s Day, let’s claim “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.
